Common Plecostomus (Hypostomus plecostomus)

Common Plecos are a freshwater species of armored catfish that are commonly sold to help keep aquarium surfaces free of algae and detritus. Unfortunately, they aren't well suited to this, due to their size they produce far more waste than they clean, but their armored shell can make them a bit more durable than some more suitable options. While their maximum size can vary some individuals can reach upwards of 24" long. While they generally aren't dangerous to other fish as always care should be taken when wanting to pair them with fish small enough to fit in their mouth.
